Our last trip to the Wentzville Community Club Flea Market was last fall when the leaves were at their prime. This morning, with the sun out in all its glory, we decided to take a little trip to one of our favorite places to find treasures.
Thanks to Rhoda at Southern Hospitality for encouraging us to share treasures. Please visit her to see even more.
The flea market it located off Highway 70 at Wentzville, MO in the city park. It is held each Sunday, rain, shine, hail, sleet, or snow. There are a few vendors that display their wares in the one indoor facility. The other 400 give or take a sleepy vendor, set up outdoors. By the time we arrived, around 8:30 some were already beginning to show the lack of sleep. You see, to secure the best spot, you must arrive in the middle of the night. I have heard that the die-hards, who have been selling for many years, buy and sell with each other by flashlight.
Needless to say, I was not about to give up my beauty sleep for even the best buy. Therefore, after a quick breakfast we were on our way.
One of my first finds was this set of Emeril quote plates. They are listed on atomicmall.com for $21.00. She was asking $15 and I finally bought them for $11. I probably paid a little too much but it was just the excitement of day and that they were in the original box. They are on their way to the lake in my newly re-done kitchen. Oh well, maybe my next deal would be better.
And, it certainly was! A man was selling a variety of glassware, books, and "junk and plunder" as my dad used to say. On one of his tables were several white pieces of china. I asked about them and he said they belonged to a school teacher and she sold them to her students to be painted. I asked where he lived and he told me. It was then I realized that his story was a little stretched. The teacher he was referring to taught first grade. She was a well known china painter in the area. He said he had purchased these pieces of unpainted china at her estate sale.He gave me the eight teacups for free!
They are so sweet with an embossed edge along the bottom.
I purchased these eight napkin rings for $1 and the napkin holder for another $1.
The extra cups in this picture, he also gave me but I think I'll let the little girls use these when we have tea parties. The pitcher and large plate were $1 each. I think the pitcher will be a lovely container for flowers from my garden. The pierced plate will complement another small pedestal plate I use for lemon slices when serving tea. The plate would be so nice for small sandwiches or tea cakes.
I found a couple of other Wonderful Wonders, but I will share them later.
Have a marvelous week.
Charla
