Charla
Welcome to Today's Thrifty Treasures hosted by
Rhoda of Southern Hospitality at http://southernhospitality-rhoda.blogspot.com/ . Please be sure and visit other great treasures.

I have some old and some new to share with you today. Above is my $1.00 find from a local shop. The items donated here go to help in funding the Crider Center http://www.cridercenter.org/ . This benefits people in need in Lincoln, St. Charles, Warren, and Franklin Counties in Missouri. We have donated items to this facility for several reasons, one being their help for my husband's brother. Steve, was born in 1948 with a variety of health concerns. It was not long after his birth, at home, it was determined that he had limited vision and also central nervous system damage. Being the youngest of three boys, his mother was always so concerned about him and his care after both she and my husband's father were gone. My husband lovingly assumed the role of caretaker and guardian for Steve, his brother. The doctors told them he would not survive past 30 and when he went Home two weeks ago, he was 61 years of age.

We not only donate items to the Treasure Shop, our local donation center, but also find some hidden treasures there like the folding mirror at the top of my post. I think it will find a place in a Christmas vignette with a candle.

Another item I purchased the same day was this faux wall fountain. It was covered with layers of dust. Who knows where it had been hiding? With a little TLC it will take a place on my foyer wall. I will share that bit of fun with you later.

These new treasures were purchased at Applewagon Antique Mall and Home Decor Outlet http://www.applewagonhome.com/ .The sweet bird tile was $2.99 and the nest, @1.00.

The final find at the Apple Wagon was these three bottles. I know, if I were as talented as some of you, I would have salvaged the bottles from some old box, hand painted the numbers on them, and carved the corks. But, with limited talent and for the mere price of $2.49 for the set, I figured I couldn't go wrong.

Here they are in my kitchen window where they catch the afternoon sunlight as it filters through the trees.

Thanks for allowing me the opportunity to share my Today's Thrifty Treasures.

Charla

Great bottles, and at that price there's no way you should try to make them!

Hi Charla,
We drop things at The Treasure Shop. I haven't shopped there in awhile. Looks like I need to stop by, to shop and donate!! Wonderful finds!

We found very good tomatoes and peaches, among other things, at the Camdenton Farmer's Market, Saturday. J also bought sticky buns. Delicious. Did you find tomatoes over on your side? We highly recommend trying Camdenton.

We had one sailboat, in our cove, Wednesday afternoon. Of course I got a photo!

Those numbered bottles are great and what a price. Love the arched thing that you posted first. I have a thing for arches. I can see it becoming a part of a Christmas scene.

What a lovely post both to read and see! Your treasure are a treat for these tired eyes. I LOVE the bottles...Score! I am also a sucker for lavabos. What is yours made out of? I would have knocked you down to beat you to it!
I love reading about God ignoring doctors and statistics. When will they realize it's all His plan.
Thanks for the smile this evening...I needed it!

Oh your treasures are all such wonderful finds. I love the folding mirror, it will truly be lovely for many occassions. The fountain is so pretty, I look forward to seeing it in place. The bottles are simply precious. I am with you, I cannot paint all of the stuff and carve corks, and besides you got them at a steal for a price. I also just saw your tablescape on the previous post. I LOVE your cloche. It is so pretty. I love the really tall dome. You did such a petty job with the tablescape and the flowers and the little bird are just perfect. I can hardly wait to see what else you do for the "Cloche Party". Thanks so much for stoppying by and I'll see you at the party. Hugs, Marty

Great bargains. What a smart idea to use that mirror in a Christmas vignette. It's perfect for that! I'm sure you couldn't have reproduced those bottles for that price. How wonderful that your husband's brother lived such a long life in spite of the odds. laurie

Hi Charla,
I like all your finds very much. I agree that it's wonderful when our shopping habits benefit others. Your husband sounds like a wonderful man to have taken on his brother's care without hesitation. And good for you for being supportive of that decision!

Thank you so much for the nice comment! I always love hearing from you ... we'll make another pie if you stop by!
Bye for now,
Bill

Charla,
Thank you for sharing Steve’s touching story. I am sure he was loved very much by his friends and family. I make it a point to shop at places such as these that donate a portion of the proceeds to good causes. You found some really wonderful items. I especially like the planter; it looks like it might be Italian.

Hi Charla...love all the finds, but the bottles are my favorites. My preference would be to buy them already numbered and corked, too!

Thanks for visiting That Old House, and for your kind words. My knee is recovered --yay!-- and so is my computer!
I'm back. :-)
